About Göran Johansson

If I were to describe myself, I am a nature photographer who finds peace in sitting still and allowing nature to come to me on its own terms. As Tomas Bannerhed expresses in his book, "letting oneself be subsumed," this has become a fundamental part of my approach. I prefer to be in nature in a way that allows me to observe and capture its beauty in stillness, without disturbance. My work is often project-based, and I rarely travel spontaneously to follow the movements of birds or animals; rather, I seek to work purposefully and long-term on what I am passionately engaged in.

My career as a nature photographer took off in 2009 when I received my first digital SLR camera. However, my interest in nature and photography began much earlier—at the age of ten, when I borrowed my father's camera. I spent all my pocket money on slide film, cycling between different environments to capture moments in nature. My father, who had a keen interest in hunting and fishing, sparked my passion for the natural world from a young age.

In addition to photography and filming, I also have interests in handball and motorcycles, as well as our farm, Bollalt, which I manage alongside my brothers. Here, I have the privilege of working freely in the forest, where I have set up a large number of birdhouses that I also maintain. In return, I get to enjoy many wonderful moments with the birds, providing me with ample photographic opportunities.

I am also active in the Falkenberg Ornithological Association, where I both learn a great deal and contribute as a board member. It’s a place where I thrive among like-minded individuals, and there are many highlights when we hold lectures and slide shows for our nearly 600 members. Our club is very active, and it is a privilege to be part of it.

As a proud member of Nikon NPS and Member of the Swedish film association, Naturfilmarna, I look forward to continuing my journey in nature photography and film, capturing and sharing the incredible nature I am privileged to be a part of.

Lectures

Lecturing is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work, where I get the opportunity to make new contacts and share my passion for nature photography. Under the "Lectures" menu you can take part in some of my previous presentations, and I also tailor lectures to specific needs and wishes.

In addition to lecturing for local associations and at nature centers around Sweden, I have also had the privilege of speaking in front of larger audiences at various lecturers' associations. These opportunities give me the opportunity to reach even more people and convey my knowledge and enthusiasm.

I also enjoy sharing my experiences and tips with photography clubs, where I teach practical techniques and insights to help members develop as nature photographers.

Other

My pictures have often appeared in Vår fågelvärld, Sweden's largest bird magazine, where I have also had the opportunity to contribute articles. One example is an article about Poland's wetlands, which was published on four pages. In issue 6 of Vår fågelvärld 2018, I had a report about our osprey project, which was highlighted with a full four pages. I have also had eight pages in Camera Natura, Sweden's leading photo magazine.

In addition to magazine articles, my pictures have also been in several books, including Skåne and Halland's bird inventory and Birds in Halland. I also participated in the film Naturen som förebold, where one of my sequences showed a flying barn owl. Together with Thomas Andersson, I have also produced the film "50 år med ospreys".

These publications and collaborations have been important to me and have given me the opportunity to share my passion for nature with a wider audience.
